This workbook walks you through creating a structured application that
converts structured FrameMaker files to XML--and back to FrameMaker. After
you set up the application's files, you will modify the DTD and add read/write
rules to handle the conversion of graphics, tables, and book files. The workbook explains the latest features in structured applications created in versions 7.1 and 7.2. The Structured Applications Workbook also contains brief reference
information about writing read/write rules and adding attributes to DTDs. Both the downloadable and printed versions of the workbook contain the same step-by-step exercises and include the files you
need to complete the exercises. Both versions also offer access to video clips that show you how to use the FrameMaker interface. Notes:
- You can use this workbook to learn FrameMaker 8. Because the File > Structure Tools submenu in FrameMaker 7 is the Structure Tools menu in FrameMaker 8, adjust your menu choices when completing the exercises in FrameMaker 8. This
workbook does not cover new features in FrameMaker 8, including
DITA support, conditional expressions, Unicode support, and rich media support.
- Downloadable workbooks are not for use in classroom training. Please contact sales@scriptorium.com for licensing information.
Do I really need a FrameMaker reference to complete the exercises? The workbook doesn't contain detailed conceptual explanations. Instead,
we suggest you purchase a reference book to get that detailed information.
We recommend Publishing Fundamentals: FrameMaker
7 (formerly FrameMaker 7: The Complete Reference). For your convenience, the workbook refers you to specific pages
in Publishing Fundamentals. Prerequisites The prerequisites for the FrameMaker materials are the same as those
for our class: Sample pages from the Structured Applications Workbook (downloaded version format) Table
