This workbook teaches you about the basics of unstructured FrameMaker and then shows you how to use the advanced capabilities of this very powerful tool. You'll learn about FrameMaker's time-saving features such as cross-references, variables, and conditional text. You'll generate a table of contents and an index, and work with tables, paragraph tags, and character tags. Both the downloadable and printed versions of the workbook contain the same step-by-step exercises and include the files you need to complete the exercises. Both versions also offer access to video clips that show you how to use the FrameMaker interface. Notes:
- You can use this workbook to learn FrameMaker 8; there are very few
differences in the unstructured interfaces of versions 7.x and 8. This
workbook does not cover new features in FrameMaker 8, including conditional expressions, Unicode support, and rich media support.
- Downloadable workbooks are not for use in classroom training. Please contact sales@scriptorium.com for licensing information.
Do I really need a FrameMaker reference to complete the exercises? The workbook doesn't contain detailed conceptual explanations. Instead,
we suggest you purchase a reference book to get that detailed information.
We recommend Publishing Fundamentals: FrameMaker
7 (formerly FrameMaker 7: The Complete Reference). For your convenience, the workbook refers you to specific pages
in Publishing Fundamentals: FrameMaker 7. (Publishing Fundamentals: Unstructured FrameMaker 8 contains the same conceptual information you need when using the workbook to learn FrameMaker 8, but the workbook does not reference specific pages in that book). Prerequisites The prerequisites for the FrameMaker materials are the same as those for our class. A user should have one of the following skills: | Solid working knowledge of a desktop publishing application (such as PageMaker or Quark XPress) | | Intermediate or advanced knowledge of a word processor (such as WordPerfect or Word | | Beginner-level knowledge of FrameMaker |
